Heat pump water cylinders

Hi Everyone

I would like to know some pros and cons of moving our current hot water system (gas bottles) to an electric heat pump cylinder ? As the price of gas is getting up there and heard it’s only going to get worse.
Any particular brands you recommend ?
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

@Nicole. Great question which I know many of our members are currently thinking about.

I think we will need some of our member businesses to help answer this question. @Jem_Electrical could assist here.

Our business directory (now out of trial has a company that can also help)
https://blizzard.co.nz/

I will get them to assist in your answering your question as well.

Hi Nicole. We are also thinking about this but we are not on gas bottles but have gas supplied from the street. I will be following this to see what members suggest. Thanks for asking the gas hot water replacement question.

Hi there my parents just switched from gas on the street to a cyclinder but also got solar panels as well and have noticed a massive difference in electricity already. They paid a disconnection fee on 250 dollars however havent actually received the bill yet. I just had a guy come round to do a quote for ours and he highly recommends moving away from gas as the prices are going to keep going up he reckons.

Great question!

Moving from LPG gas bottles to a hot water heat pump system can be a great option, especially if your gas is mainly being used for hot water.

The biggest benefits are generally lower running costs, no more worrying about bottle refills, and much better energy efficiency. The main things to consider are the upfront installation cost, making sure the cylinder is sized correctly for your household, and having a suitable location for the system.

There are a few good brands available in NZ, and the best option really depends on your household size, current setup and hot water usage.

We have a lot of customers who really love the Daikin CO2 Hot Water Heat Pumps - CO2 Hot Water Heat Pump – Daikin NZ

Hope this information is helpful! If you would like any further information please let me know
