Topic – Improving the value of your home – Warm, healthy living.
A recent survey found that around half of New Zealanders feel their homes are not warm enough during winter. A warm, dry home is not only more comfortable to live in, it can also improve health, reduce moisture and mould, and make a property more attractive to future buyers and tenants. Improvements such as insulation, double glazing, heat pumps, draught stopping and quality curtains can all make a significant difference. A home that is warm and healthy is often seen as a well-maintained and desirable place to live.
Q&A: Is your home warm enough during winter? What improvements have made the biggest difference to your comfort and heating costs?
Here is some interesting help on getting a warmer home in NZ.
The New Zealand Government encourages heat pump installation through its Warmer Kiwi Homes programme, which helps eligible homeowners cover much of the cost of a new heat pump. The aim is to make homes warmer, healthier, and more energy-efficient, reducing winter illnesses and lowering household power bills. Heat pumps are also supported because they use electricity more efficiently than many other forms of heating, helping reduce overall energy demand and emissions. Some banks also offer low-interest “green home loans” for heat pumps and other energy-saving home improvements.
