Please read this first to give you context. "As soon as we leave home as young adults, we start our real estate journey for life"

:speaking_head:“No matter where we live. As soon as we leave home, we start our real estate journey as real estate travellers, until we depart this beautiful planet!” Chris Kerr, Co-founder, NEW KIDS, 2015.

To make real estate simpler and more straight forward to our community, we use new property/real estate language and have created the journey map (below) to visually guide you. Within 3 seconds of looking at the map you should be able to see clearly where you are on this map.

Let’s now explain the categories and journeys in more detail.

There are three real estate traveller categories:

  1. Live. (This means anything to do with living, example’s - I rent my room or home, I own and occupy my apartment, I live in a lifestyle block, I rent a age care room, etc)
  2. Work. (This means anything to do with working, examples - I rent a office, I run my business from our warehouse, I own this industrial property for my business, etc)
  3. Invest. (This means I invest in either the live or work category or both, examples I have a group of apartments as a investment, or I invest in industrial property, etc)

Here are the six real estate asset types:

  • Residential (Any type of residential property, can include mixed use assets and land)
  • Commercial (All business type premises, includes land)
  • Industrial (All business type premises, includes land)
  • Farming
  • Horticulture
  • Businesses (All types of businesses that trade and can be brought, leased or sold)

Next there are six traveller real estate journeys:

  1. Acquisition ( I want to rent or buy a home, investment property, work property)
  2. Building (I am building a new home, work premises, or investment property)
  3. Living (I live in my home and need to keep up the maintenance)
  4. Working (I lease my warehouse and need to pay rent)
  5. Investing (I am investing in all types of real estate)
  6. Disposal (I am selling, leasing or renting out my property)

The six journeys you can take are dependent on your real estate objective and goals. Note, you can be active in 1 or more categories and the same applies to the journeys.
For example. I rent a home (Living category), (Living journey, I have to look after my home)

I like this. I think I get it. What does next mean?

Hi H. Next means - Your next journey. Next is where you prepare and gather your team and define your journey, eg, building a home in Martinborough, that you already own the land.

Interesting map. I like that it is very concise and straightforward to understand. I presume the living journey is the journey most of us are on all the time?

Yes the living journey is all about living in your home no matter what type of residential property it is.

As an example: a young student living in say the halls of residence is on a living journey, the student has rent to pay and needs to maintain that room.

Later this year we will publish all the individual steps that you go through each journey.

Now this is a great map showing all the real estate journeys in one view. Why not produce as some sort of game?

You’re not the first to suggest that. We will focus on building this community. What real estate problems, pains are you wanting to solve?

Hi @chris-newkids. Could you give some more specific examples of the journeys?

Hi @RealHelp. The first journey for real estate travellers that we will focus on is the acquisition journey:

Examples:

  1. Live category: Finding a room, or flat to rent is an example. or finding lifestyle block to purchase is another.
  2. Work category: Finding an office for your business to rent or buy is an a acquisition journey.
  3. Invest category: Finding an apartment to buy as a investment is an example
or seeking a large industrial warehouse and retail complex to buy as a investment is another example.

Hi @chris-newkids. I find this map quite unique. Can I ask why the building journey follows the acquisition journey?

Hi @ABarnes. That’s a great question.

Because usually the acquisition of land is the first step then it follows the build process.

But in some cases buyers might decide to have their preferred builder supply the land. Hence land and home packages from builders.

Hi @chris-newkids. I like the real estate map. I can easily get my head around it. I was a little bit confused on the living, working, investing journeys. But it now makes sense. So we are trying to buy industrial property would mean 1. We are in the invest category and 2. on a acquisition journey - correct?

Hi @chris-newkids. Could you tell us more about the build journey?

Hi @Im2. Yes you are correct that you are in the invest category, and on a acquisition journey.
